I know they have good intentions but it just makes things worse.
Found this in an old tab so I thought you might appreciate a reply from someone else that's a bit socially awkward.
They don't have to feel awkward not saying something if they can take a sip of their drink, they can let the others fill the silence while they don't feel awkward just being there silent and can get used to the conversation dynamic until they feel like joining in. However, due to certain events that happened a year ago, it is now a horrible affliction. I'm afraid of even texting people back, and the thought of starting a conversation is downright impossible. If they go off into a corner, or look at their phone a bit to much, give them some space.
Also they don't have to worry what to do with their hands because they are holding a drink. It may take them a bit to open up, and feel comfortable enough to just say you were dragging me to a party ( I battle with my shyness/anxiety/confidence a lot, no real reason, no sad back story, I don't see an ugly person in the mirror, when I figure it out ill update reddit) Now I am quite capable of carrying a conversation, turning on the charm and making people laugh.

Some people even suggest Jobs might have to step down as Apple CEO.
Or that an investigation by Disney into options backdating at Pixar also cleared Jobs of any wrongdoing, even though he helped negotiate the deal in which Pixar's star film director, John Lasseter, received backdated options.

I've backed out on friends when I found out that there would be a lot of people somewhere that I didn't know (like it was going to be just a hanging-out thing and turned into a party. However, I have found lots of truth in the statement over the years.
In the context of mutual funds, a feature allowing fundholders to use an earlier date on a letter of intent to invest in a mutual fund in exchange for a reduced sales charge, e.g.
Giving retroactive value to purchases from the earlier date.
Of course, they may have actually been pushed on their swords by their boards, but let?
In the case of Apple, not only did the board send two sacrificial lambs to slaughter, but the feds hung some pretty hefty charges on their necks to boot.
